What Does 2 DIN Car Stereo Mean?

DIN typically refers to “Deutsches Institut für Normung”, which takes its origin from the German standard’s organization that sets the standards for the original car head units that are still in use today.

The basic standard DIN 75490 highlighted that the appropriate dimensions of a head unit while glimpsing it from the front specifies that it should ideally be lying in-between 180 mm long and 50 mm tall of dimensions. The International Standards Organization uses DIN 75490 as an ISO 7736, which is incorporated by the automakers all over the globe. However, the head units that suit this form factor are still known as the “DIN car radios” because “Deutsches Institut fürNormung” came up with the original standards.

The most imperative version of DIN 75490 is worldwide known as the “double DIN” as the car with radios included of these sizes is essentially like the single DIN head units compiled one after another. As a result of which, a typical “2 DIN car stereo” is still 150 mm long, but it is 100 mm tall instead of just 50 mm.

None of the car standard organizations specify the depth or the range used for car head units to conform to. This means some of the cars with especially shallow head unit receptor can have trouble fitting certain head units.<>
